Tales from the Trenches of Crisis Management
February’s SLSAE speaker will help us navigate the crises we face. Join us for a fun, friendly, maybe a little bit frightening look at the hiccups that can derail us if we let them.
Crisis management matters now more than ever. Once a crisis makes headlines, it’ll lurk forever in the cavernous recesses of the Internet. When another, similar hazard erupts, even if long after and unrelated, our handling of that crisis (good, bad or disastrous) will pop up in searches forever after.
What qualifies as a crisis for your organization?
An event cancellation? … member misbehavior? … leadership power struggles? … unexpected staff departures? … mass membership departures? … a data breach or cybersecurity threat? … financial mismanagement? … negative publicity? … natural disasters? … ethical violations?
YIKES! No one likes to think those events will crash onto our calendars, but, like it or not, ready or not, they do.
If and when they do, how can we help our associations survive (even soar) instead of sink and struggle?
What about personal crises? Accidents, injuries, death, taxes, no one to celebrate Valentine’s Day with you. [JK about that last one.]
