Your Members Are the Message: How to Turn Member Stories into Advocacy, Recruitment and Retention

Your association probably has dozens, hundreds or even thousands of great stories. The problem? Most of them are hiding in plain sight.

Your members can often tell your association’s story more powerfully than a perfectly polished brochure, annual report or executive ever could. In this fast-paced, interactive program, Chris Kuban, Founder & CEO of Chemistry PR & Multimedia, will show association leaders how to find those stories, shape them and put them to work to influence policymakers, attract new members and remind current members why they belong.

And no, you don't need to go viral, hire an influencer or turn every member into a TikTok star.

      Attendees will learn how to:

      • Find the stories hiding inside your membership and identify the people who can bring your mission and value to life.
      • Turn member experiences into compelling messages instead of testimonials that sound like, well...testimonials.
      • Match the story to the goal, whether you are trying to influence a legislator, recruit a member, generate media coverage, or strengthen retention.
      • Turn one great member story into multiple pieces of content for video, social media, PR, presentations, websites, email and advocacy campaigns.
      • Create a repeatable storytelling strategy so you aren't scrambling for a good member story three days before the annual meeting, legislative day or membership campaign.

Participants will leave with practical ideas they can immediately use to make their members more than the people they serve.

They can become some of the association's most powerful messengers.

      Program Title:  Understanding Group Exemptions

      We’ve got you covered!

Group exemptions have long provided nonprofit associations with an efficient pathway for recognizing the tax-exempt status of chapters, affiliates, and subordinate organizations. However, evolving IRS guidance and compliance expectations have created new questions regarding administration, oversight, reporting obligations, and risk management.

Join us for an informative session designed for association executives, finance leaders, and nonprofit professionals seeking to better understand how group exemptions work in today's regulatory environment.

During this presentation, attendees will gain practical insights into the requirements for obtaining and maintaining a group exemption, the responsibilities of central organizations, and the compliance considerations affecting local chapters and affiliates. The session will also explore key considerations when evaluating whether a group exemption remains the right structure for an association.

Whether your organization currently operates under a group exemption, is considering applying for one, or simply wants to better understand the implications of affiliated nonprofit structures, this session will provide actionable guidance and practical perspectives.

Best fit for: Association CEOs, CFOs, finance and accounting professionals, AMC staff, board members, volunteer leaders, legal and compliance professionals, and chapter or affiliate administrators.
